Making the Switch to Stainless Steel Appliances
Do Stainless Steel Appliances Cost Too Much?
We were recently asked this interior design question, through "Ask Andrea":
All my appliances, (stove, dishwasher, microwave), are white. My fridge just broke. I plan on replacing my stove soon. Should I start changing over to stainless?
And here's what Stanton Homes' on staff interior design expert Andrea has to say:
"I would definitely be making the switch to stainless steel appliances.
They have been strong in the market for over a decade already with popularity looking still strong for the future.
The good thing for you is that since they have already been around so long, there are deals to be had on these appliances and in some cases better deals than on white appliances since there are simply less of them made right now.
Refrigerators

For refrigerators, if you go with a side by side style there are numerous models that can be found on clearance seeing as the more popular door configuration at the moment is the French Door style.
Microwaves
Stainless steel microwaves can be purchased for very little as microwaves are just not that expensive in general.
Dishwashers
Stainless steel dishwashers can be very moderately priced as well.
Range and Hood
The greatest difference in price from white to stainless will be on your range and hood.
Stainless Steel is Worth the Investment
However, in the event that you ever had to sell your home, stainless steel appliances would be valued higher than white appliances.
They are more popular due to the open style floor-plans commonly seen these days. With kitchens open to the rest of the home, we tend to want them to have an upgraded appearance as a lot of our entertaining happens in both the kitchen and the great room or basically in the area between the two.
Be sure to comparison shop and don't forget about clearance centers--good luck with your purchases. I think you will like the way the stainless steel appliances immediately update the entire look of your kitchen even if you do little else to it."
