2017 New Home Trends - Walk In Pantry Ideas

It's important to have enough storage in the kitchen. Below are photos of walk in, oversized, and multi-location kitchen pantries.

Walk In Pantry Kitchen Design Idea #1 - Hallway

Take advantage of an available hallway, and add an extended depth, extra wide pantry.

The pantry is within easy reach of the ktichen. There are actually three pantry-style storage areas:
  • Behind door pictured
  • Through the hallway to the laundry room (see the built in shelves past the wall oven?)
  • In the form of a butler's pantry (located in the hallway to the formal dining room)

Walk In Pantry Kitchen Design Idea #2 - U Shaped Walk in Pantry

This floor plan includes an oversized walk in pantry tucked between the kitchen and laundry walls.

Inside, there's wrap around shelving with plenty of storage space for the kitchen.

The hidden pantry doesn't detract from the open "L" shaped eating bar/island.

Walk In Pantry Kitchen Design Idea #3 - Hidden Room

The "hidden" walk in pantry is located between the garage and dining room.

The pantry door blends with the arched opening to the dining room.

Walk In Pantry Design Idea #4 - Under the Stairs

An "under the stairs" location can allow the architect to really maximize the pantry space - in some cases creating a walk in pantry that's six to eight feet deep.

This staircase, behind the kitchen, wraps around above the pantry:

Walk In Pantry Idea #5 - Convert the Laundry Room

For this home, a standard pantry just wouldn't do.

The Laundry Room was originally next to the Kitchen.  We designed a "Home Hub", moved the appliances there, and converted the entire former Laundry Room into a huge walk in pantry.

And here's the "home hub":

2017 New Home Trends: Master Baths with No Tub

We expect to see more master baths without a tub in 2017. Instead, more homes are likely to have showers sized for two to share.

Here are photos and floor plans that can get you started with some examples of master bath designs without a tub, for your Raleigh new home.

Looking for a master bathroom with a really huge shower - instead of a bathtub?

*Design tip: Consider a pocket door in smaller spaces, or where there are multiple doors in a close space.  Just keep in mind that pocket doors can require more homeowner maintenance.

It's common for Jack and Jill bathroom designs to incorporate one or more pocket doors to keep space more open and usable.

No Tub in the Master Bath - Layout #4

In this version of the Oak Lane, an Atlanta Plan Source floor plan, Stanton Homes converted the master shower and tub combination into an enlarged shower design.

  • The custom tile master shower incorporates aging-in-place design features like grap bars and tons of natural lighting.
  • The built-in tile bench makes this shower easy to use.
  • As you can see, this home was custom modified to complete the lifestyle of the homebuyer. In the original floor plan, the shower and tub were separated:
