Put the microwave where you need it in your new kitchen design

Raleigh luxury home builder tips

Microwaves do a lot of the heavy lifting in today's casual cooking, so make sure it's where you want it when you design your kitchen for your new custom home.

Think about the width, height, depth and easy reaching distance you want for your microwave, and consider these different approaches to tucking it somewhere practical, from Raleigh luxury custom home builder Stanton Homes.

Where to put the microwave idea #1: Microwave in one of two islands

More Raleigh luxury homes are placing the microwave below the counter top. Where there are two islands, choose the one that's most accessible to your in-and-out-fast needs.

Where to put the microwave idea #2: Microwave adjacent to the formal dining room

Last minute reheat can require easy access to the formal dining room.

Consider placing your microwave near the dining room entrance.  Make sure there's plenty of counterspace to "stage" dishes moving in and out of the ovens - with the cooktop also conveniently close.

Where to put the microwave idea #3: Microwave in the center island

Smack in the center of the room is a great place to tuck a microwave in a lower cabinet or island.

A base cabinet microwave is especially recommended for aging in place and universal home designs, where everything is built-in to be easier.

Where to put the microwave idea #4: Wall Cabinet Microwave centered between two islands

Plan your working space so everything is central to the way you cook.

More Raleigh luxury home kitchens now have multiple islands. If you can't decide which one to designate for the microwave, ask your interior designer at Stanton Homes.

She can show you how to split the difference, with a microwave in the middle.

Where to put the microwave idea #5: Microwave above the range

Some homeowners still choose a kitchen layout with the microwave above the range - which can work well when cooking multi-dish meals.

This layout also can be more cost effective, as a separate hood is not required.

Where to put the microwave idea #6: Microwave and Ovens separated

Kitchen layout ideas | Raleigh luxury home builders

Need room to spread out? Consider separating wall ovens and the cooktop/microwave combination.

There's plenty of space to prepare all the food, as well as balance to the design of your kitchen.

Where to put the microwave idea #7: Microwave beside the double oven

Kitchen layout ideas | Raleigh luxury home builders

Some kitchen design ideas place double ovens, range, and microwave along the same wall.

This setup is ideal for two-chef kitchens: the island serves as a prep area and the appliance wall has everything you need with a full cooking station.

A wall oven/microwave combination keeps the hot spots in one place.  This combination will require either a hood over the cooktop, or a specialty downdraft cooktop (most commonly seen when the cooktop is placed in the island).
